Treatments and Treatment Advice

Tooth Whitening
In recent years there have been dramatic changes in the methods used to whiten teeth. The methods we use today are more sophisticated and advanced, than those previously available. The most effective way to whiten your teeth is at home under the supervision of your dentist. You will have trays specially made to fit your teeth and your dentist will provide you with a bleaching kit and full instructions to take home. The dentist will make a note of your tooth shade and your initial visit and then will review your teeth after 2 weeks of bleaching to compare.
Root canal treatment
If a tooth has been damaged by decay or trauma it can sometimes cause the tooth to die off. An option to try to save the tooth in this instance is to have Root Canal Treatment. This is the process of removing the dead nerve from the root and replacing it with a rubber filling material. The tooth will then need to be restored with either a filling or a crown. Your dentist will be able to advise you on which is best for you.
Crowns
A crown is simply a cap on the top of a tooth, they can be made from a variety of materials. Some crowns can be gold or silver in appearance or they can also be colour matched to the patients teeth. Crowns are used to provide added strength or improve appearance where a filling is no longer suitable.
Dentures
Dentures, also known as false teeth or plates, are used to replace missing teeth. They can be made of acrylic or chrome cobalt and can be used to replace a full arch of missing teeth or even just to replace one missing tooth. Dentures are removable as opposed to bridges which are cemented in place. Dentures should be removed every night for cleaning and left out over night to allow soft tissues in your mouth to breathe and stay healthy.
